Updated: Apr 17

In the world of entrepreneurship, where new ideas meet and dreams take flight, lies the underestimated power of public speaking. For aspiring Christian entrepreneurs, mastering this skill is more than just a tactic; it's your competitive edge.

Picture yourself addressing an eager crowd, your voice strong, your message impactful, resonating not only in the room but in the minds of your audience. It transcends mere sales pitches or business proposals; it's about sparking transformations, influencing lives, and making a lasting impression on the world.

Public speaking unlocks pathways to new opportunities, enabling you to forge deep connections with your listeners, articulate your vision, and, importantly, share your faith in alignment with Mark 16:15 "Go into all the world and preach the Good News to Everyone."

View public speaking as a form of ministry rather than mere communication; a way to inspire, persuade, and guide hearts and minds towards a shared purpose. It serves as the link between your current position and your desired destination—guiding you towards financial independence and empowering you to create a meaningful impact for the Kingdom.

"Public Speaking skills provides you with a powerful force for positive change in the business world."

This article invites you to improve your public speaking skills to become a powerful force for positive change in the business world. For Christian entrepreneurs prepared to create a lasting impression, amplifying your voice marks the first step.

Explore the insights here and unlock the potential in your words.

The Power of Your Voice

Think of your voice like a superhero's cape - with it, you can do wonders! Effective speaking isn't just about making noise; it’s about making your words count so people sit up and listen.

This is really important for you, as bold Christian entrepreneurs. Why? Because when you talk in a way that’s clear and kind, folks tend to trust you more.

Trust is like the secret ingredient in your grandma’s famous cookie recipe - it makes everything better! And with trust comes influence and credibility. Imagine being able to help others see the world the way you do, guiding them towards making it a better place.

In the busy world of business, being someone others look up to can help your business fly high, just like a superhero! Speaking effectively helps you share your awesome ideas and your faith in a way that others can understand and love too.

Remember, as leaders, we’re all called to be a shining light in the world, showing the way just like the stars do at night. The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." This isn’t just for some of us; it’s for all of us!

Your voice has the power to build bridges, to turn strangers into friends, and to transform your dreams into reality. It’s all about using your voice for good because whether you see it or not, you are already a leader. So, where are you leading people with your example? Which is why it is so vital to not only learn how to use your voice for good, but to use your leadership to help create a lasting impact in the world.

Of course you are, otherwise you wouldn't be here reading this post ;) Let's dive in to how to be a better speaker .

Crafting Your Message with Purpose

When it comes to crafting your message, many Christian Entrepreneurs will rely solely on the spirit to guide them while speaking. While this is great, it also important to prepare.

"Embody Christ through a thoughtful and purposeful message."

When you thoughtfully and purposefully prepare your message, you will then embody the words found in Matthew 10:19-20 - "Do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you."

What are the secrets to purposefully crafting your message for Public Speaking? In truth, the how to become a good speaker comes from having a clear singular purpose or goal for your message. This is one of the most overlooked public speaking strategies.

We try to cover too much that we end confusing our audience more than helping.

So consider these questions while preparing to connect with your audience members.

  • What do you want your audience to take away from your speech?

  • Is it to inspire, educate, or motivate them?

  • What message do you want to leave lingering in their minds and hearts?

  • What action are you wanting them take?

Having a clear purpose will guide the tone and content of your message, boosting your confidence, helping conquer your fear of public speaking, and increase your influence.

Remember, you don't have to navigate this journey alone. In my pursuit of becoming a confident public speaker, I found immense value in the Kingdom Speaker Academy and The Confident Speaker course, both training for public speaking.

While I'll delve deeper into this later, I urge you not to solely rely on your natural abilities. Instead, focus on continual growth and learning to master the art of effective speaking.

Connecting with Your Audience

Connecting with your audience is both an art and a science. It’s far more than just the words you say; it’s about how you say them and the energy you project. A groundbreaking lesson learned from "The Confident Speaker," a public speaking course inside the Girl Power Alliance by Lisa Vanderkwaak brings light to a fascinating concept researched by Albert Mehrabian.

He proposed that effective communication relies on three key components: 55% nonverbal cues (body language), 38% vocal elements (tone, speed, and volume of speech), and only 7% the actual words spoken.

Lisa then continues to share how to be a confident public speaker by sharing insights into enhancing your presence. Embodying P.R.E.S.E.N.C.E. involves exuding Power, Warmth, Focus, and Gravitas, crucial elements for creating a lasting impact.

Creating a strong presence is not about pretending to be someone you're not, but rather, about being your most empowered self, fully engaged and responsive to the moment. It is essential for making your message resonate. It transforms speaking from a mere delivery of information into a dynamic exchange of ideas and energy. In the world of effective communication, understanding and harnessing the power of presence can significantly amplify your impact as a speaker.

Presence is that magnetic quality that captivates and commands attention, not because of a loud voice or grand gestures, but because of authenticity, confidence, and the ability to make each listener feel seen and understood.

Inside her course, Lisa also teaches Presence as an acronym (since I can't share it fully here, but you can access it through a special 24 hr sneak peak).

From this acronym, I learned that Presence is much more than physical, it's emotional, your movements, how you're presenting yourself, and the ability to fully connect with your audience.

When you combine all these as you speak, you embody presence. You become a speaker that people want to listen to, learn from and engage with. Make sure to go and grab your 24 hr sneak peak to learn the truth of creating Presence, and watch your impact soar!

How to be a Better Public Speaker

Now that we've covered the power of your voice, how to properly connect with your audience, and how to craft your message for impact, let's talk about 4 tips on how to be a better speaker.

1) Always be Learning

In the quest for personal and professional development, remember this powerful truth: without continual learning, we stagnate rather than grow. Think of it as nurturing the garden of your mind. If you fail to water the garden, it will start to wither and die.

Just as Proverbs 1:5 says, "Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance." Wisdom and understanding are ongoing pursuits, not static achievements. The same goes for obtaining guidance.

God has provided us with the power of prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that we are never truly alone. Similarly, it is also important to reach out to get guidance in our physical life, from coaches, courses, or communities.

2) Measure your Progress

Success in any field is a result of diligent effort and the tracking of that effort. Remember the saying, "What you measure grows." This simple yet profound expression underscores the importance of tracking your progress.

By paying attention to where you are and how far you've come, you empower yourself with the knowledge of what works and what doesn't. This isn’t just about celebrating victories but also about learning from setbacks. Just as is said in Proverbs 4:7 emphasizes the importance of wisdom and understanding, remarking, "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight."

Inside the Kingdom Speaker Academy there are two mains aspect that stand out to me, first was to learn how to become a good speaker by crafter a powerful message, by practicing, by getting insight, and then doing it again. The second aspect was the community support and feedback.

This active engagement with your growth process is pivotal in not just to becoming a better speaker, but in achieving excellence in any aspect of life. Keep measuring, keep growing, and watch as your efforts bloom into the success you've envisioned.

3) Focus on just One Topic

I remember the first time I got on stage and spoke, it was for about 5 minutes and sharing a testimonial at an event. I remember being so nervous and worried that I was going to truly mess things up, but this is why it is so vital to prepare. When I was asked to speak, the first thing I did was to organize my thoughts, my journey, and pinpoint a focus of what I was going to share.

By focusing on just one topic, your audience will more likely to remember what you're sharing and allow for clarity and coherence in your message. It also helps you to stay on track and eliminate the potential for rambling or getting off topic.

Focusing on a single topic does more than just streamline your communication; it enhances engagement and fosters deeper understanding. It acts as a spotlight, directing your audience’s full attention to the heart of your message.

This focused approach empowers your listeners to follow your thought process without effort, which is particularly crucial in settings where expressing your message effectively is paramount, like in presentations, lectures, or motivational speeches.

Remember, in the art of communication, less is often more.

4) Practice Brings Progress

The last tip is to practice. In last few years, we have gone on a explosive journey of becoming more and more online, which gives us more and more opportunities to practice speaking.

You can start a YouTube channel, a Podcast, apply to be an expert in an event, put on your own events (online or offline), volunteer to teach for a local community event, etc. There are so many great opportunities available for you, go out and start using them.

Then rinse and repeat these simple steps, Learn, Measure, Focus, and Practice. Keep these tips in mind and put them into action, and you will see improvement in your communication skills over time.

Remember, it's not about being perfect or flawless; it's about constant growth and progress. So keep practicing, keep learning, and keep improving! Let's work towards becoming exceptional Public Speakers together!
